Abstract

The most fundamental problem we face when it comes to the discussion of appearance and reality is the fundamental distinction between sleep and wakefulness. A person in a state between sleep and wakefulness is disconnected from reality under the influence of mental illusions. In the meantime, because the "door to the subconscious" is opened, he cannot distinguish whether what he is experiencing is a dream or a reality. Therefore, in this case, questions such as whether I may be dreaming, when will I wake up from this dream, whether the life we have lived is a dream or where is the real life and how will I return to it inevitably arises. These questions, which have been experienced or possible to live, remind us of the distinction between appearance and reality and have made us feel the need to bring this problem back to the agenda. The movie Inception, which was translated into today's Turkish as a beginning and the general theme of which is dreams, also attracts attention at this point because it has a subject that deeply deals with the problem of appearance and reality. Our aim in this study is to discuss the problem of appearance and reality, which is one of the main problems of epistemology, based on the concept of dream in the movie Inception, in the light of the views of philosophers such as Protagoras, Descartes, and Berkeley in the history of philosophy
