USING A TEMPLATE IN LOGO DESIGN: AN EXAMPLE OF THE IBBTV LOGO

Abstract

The administration of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was transferred to the Republican People's Party in the local elections of March 31, 2019. Following this development, fundamental changes have been made to some of the municipality's organs. As part of these changes, the managers and design teams of the relevant institutions have changed. Accordingly, the logo of the municipality's broadcaster IBBTV, which has been in use since the time of the previous administrations, has also been changed. The newly made logo has received a lot of criticism and has been the subject of controversy due to the graphic design features it contains.  What is remarkable about the criticisms is that a template, i.e. a template, was used in a logo that has not been done in an original study. The revised version of the new İBBtv logo after receiving criticism has been analyzed within the scope of graphic design expertise. The issue has been discussed within the framework of ethics and law.
