OPINIONS AND ATTITUDES OF NURSES FOR PATIENT SAFETY INVESTIGATION

Abstract

The research was carried out in descriptive design to analyze the opinions and attitudes of nurses working in two public hospitals towards patient safety.
The samples are not chosen but all the nurses (n:398) who accepted to attend the research were encompassed to the research. The data was collected by using a question form prepared by the researchers which was made up of two parts including the socio-demographic features of nurses, opinions about patient safety and the potential events that threatens the patient safety. The data was analyzed through frequency, medium, percentage, standard deviation in SPSS 18.0 program. In questions containing determining of the order of importance, percentage of the weighed aggregates was calculated.
Collected data shows that nurses consider eneligible physical environment (20.6%) and delayed therapy hour as risk factors treatening the patient safety. Main reasons leading to the threatening situations are reported as high number of patients per nurse (13.8%), consciousness status of patients (23%).

In this study towards the obtained results, suggestions were given in order to improve the nurses’ perception of patient safety and related institutions should give priority to develop patient safe.
