Abstract

Egypt, which has a long history, continues to attract the attention of the world especially thanks to the civilization of Pharaohs. Egypt, which hosted many civilizations, bears important traces of Turks. Although Turks were active in pre-Ottoman Egypt, their influence was particularly strong during the reign of Mehmet Ali Pasha nearly in all aspects of the country’s life. The historical links between Egypt and Turkey have been so strong that political problems remain in the shadow of socio-cultural affinity. The civilizational, cultural and literary heritage of Turks in Egypt has been pointed out by a very important work entitled The Turks and Cultural Heritage in Egypt, prepared by Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu. Publications related to Turks in Egypt are not few. Ayşe Teymûrî is an example of a Turk who grew up in Cairo. Ayşe Teymûrî, whose works are generally about literature and social life in Egypt, was so much saddened by the death of her daughter that she quit writing. In this study, Ayşe Teymuri will be introduced in the first place and then the poem which she wrote after the death of her daughter Tevhide will be analysed.
