AN OVERVIEW OF THE CULTURAL HERITAGE: THE CASE OF MARMARIS

The locations that are called “tourism destinations” are the sites that attract people by the appeals they have. Marmaris, district of Mugla, is one of the top tourist destinations in Turkey and also in the world. Marmaris, has started its development in the tourism sector in 1960s and attracted approximately 2 million tourist within the first nine months of 2018. The goal of the study is to identify what are the cultural heritage Marmaris holds. In the study, cultural heritage, the place and the importance of the culture heritage in tourism is examined. In this study, qualitative research techniques are used and in dept conservations were held with municipality staff. Through half structured questionnaire, data needed for the study was gathered and using descriptive approach questionnaires feed to reader, and output was instantly interpreted. In the study it is concluded that Marmaris has etno-botanic cultures like Yoruk culture in Marmaris, village marriage ceremonies, carpets, point lace, 12-13 ruins, bay, sage, peanut but cultural and natural heritage inventory is not been done.
