Abstract

Following the changing world political conjuncture and advancements in information technologies (ITs), globalization has been an unavoidable fact for all countries. However, there is no clear consensus on this concept among writers, therefore globalization has been perceived and defined differently. Through a content analysis of sourtimes.org writers’ entries,  the purpose of this study is to learn Turkish people’s perception of globalization in social media which is one of the most visited websites in Turkey In the study, concepts of globalization and social media were clarified within their general outlines and historical process, and then a content analysis of sourtimes’ entries was made. According to the analysis, Turkish people mostly perceived globalization negatively in social media and they interpret globalization as an extension of capitalism economically and an instrument that makes World people homogenous through Western values culturally. It is thought that this study will contribute to the literature by indicating how globalization is perceived by Turkish people in social media which has become an indispensable part of daily life.
