Abstract

Although some of them were dilapidated due to factors such as lack of care, unconsciousness and natural disasters, civil architectural works in Kutahya, which construct the traditional historic fabric of the city, still reflect the most beautiful examples of Anatolian Turkish house architecture. The construction of modern houses is an undeniable necessity; however the necessary works should be carried out to ensure that the architectural works of our cultural heritage are maintained, preserved and transferred to future generations. In this study, some recent Kutahya houses and one old Kutahya house are selected from Kutahya’s Germiyan Street in Pirler District and Borekciler District, and they are grouped according to their scorecards which are based on their internal and external evaluations. The authenticity of the selected dwellings in Kutahya fabric, the value added by them to Kutahya and their protection values are determined, and then these houses were compared with each other. In the evaluations, houses in group A constitute the dwelling group with the highest authenticity and those in group D constitute the dwelling group with the lowest authenticity. This study will help to determine the authenticity values of works and areas selected from traditional housing fabric of Kutahya and to use these values in preservation decisions of these areas
