Ad Reinhardt is American painter. In his paintings made by Ad Reinhardt's pure-geometric approach; Platonic understanding, eastern beliefs and understanding of eastern art, as well as K. Malevich, P. Mondrian and the influence of cubism is also seen. In the beginning, monochrome small geometric forms with different colors in their compositions have been replaced by areas with less color and larger surfaces.
Aim of the study is to emphasize the importance of the artist in the context of plastic arts by analyzing the paintings of Ad Reinhard in terms of form and content.. Examples of the abstract paintings that the artist produced between the 1930's-60's are the sample of the study. In this study, literature review and survey methods were applied. The works in the period which include the last period paintings starting from the early works that can be reached; Outside of the color series framework, similar compositions were taken into consideration in terms of form and content. In the works that are perceived as black, it has been learned that other colors are used too. It was concluded that the cross shape perceived on the surface was not used as a symbol with religious content and this form emerged over time in the process of artistic creation. It is emphasized that the artist's black density paintings can be evaluated in the context of conceptual art.
