Abstract

Abdullah Efendi's Dreams is one of the longest stories of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar. The story moves through a dream fiction. Abdullah Efendi’s, who is the the protagonist of story, unrest and seeking peace forms the basis of story. It is seen that reality and dream intertwine in the story. Abdullah Efendi's search for identity is highlighted. Abdullah Efendi is not satisfied with himself. He carries two character inside. This two character are in constant struggle. Abdullah Efendi's this duality conflict exhausts him. This duality leads Abdullah Efendi to a seeking throughout the story. The result of this seeking is always negative. The reckoning of Abdullah Efendi's subconscious also takes place during this seeking. It is pointed out that Abdullah Efendi is feared and terrified during this seeking. The most prominent feeling after the unrest is the feeling of fear. This feeling of fear also does not leave Abdullah Efendi throughout the story.
