EXAMINATION OF POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE PERFECTIONISM LEVELS OF MIDDLE SCHOOL 8TH GRADE STUDENTS

Abstract

Purpose of this study is to determine positive and negative perfectionism levels of 8th Grade Secondary School Students. This study analyzed whether or not positive and negative perfectionism levels of 8th Grade Secondary School Students vary based on gender, number of siblings, studying at government schools or private schools. The study used descriptive research method for revealing the current situation. The randomly selected sample group of the study has total 150 students, 92 female and 58 male students, who go to 8th Grade at a secondary school in Sivas province. “Personal Information Form” designed by the researcher and “Positive & Negative Perfectionism Scale” designed by Kırdök (2004) were used as data collection tools. As for data analysis, statistical techniques arithmetic mean ( X) and standard deviation (S) were used to analyze positive and negative perfectionism levels of 8th grade secondary school students and if the variable level was two, t test was used to determine whether positive and negative perfectionism levels vary based on gender, number of siblings and type of school or not and ANOVA  was used if the level was above two. The analysis of collected data confirmed that positive perfectionism levels of 8th grade secondary school students are high, negative perfectionism levels are medium and there is no significant difference between positive perfectionism levels based on gender but there is a significant difference in favor of the male students in terms of negative perfectionism levels. Besides, it was concluded that there is no significant difference between positive and negative perfectionism levels based on number of siblings and, as for the criteria related to studying at a government school or private school, there are significant results in favor of students attending to private school in terms of both positive and negative perfectionism levels.
