EXAMINING THE TRADITIONAL UNDERWEARS OF TURKISH FAMILIES IMMIGRATED FROM BULGARIA, BALKAN COUNTRY

Traditional underwears worn by both women and men have been the most important clothes in dowry in the past.
The aim of this study is to examine the traditional underwears of Turkish families immigrated from Bulgaria toTurkey because of forced migration at certain times in the past in terms of colour, cloth, model, sewing and ornamentation. For this purpose, eight traditional underwears from Bulgaria bought from two immigrant families from Bulgaria to Turkey between the years 1951 and 1978 have been examimed according to cloth analysis form and they have also been visualized by photographing from different angles. Besides, it has been made personel interviews with Bulgarian immigrant families and then necessary information on traditiona lunderwears has been gathered.
In this study, it has drawn attention that the fabric with cream colored cotton, silk and with cotton - silk blended are used and the edges of fabric are in different colours. The most important feature of this traditional underwears which are usually composed of five parts is that the collars aren’t engraved and that they are opened later according to the wearer. It is observed that the traditional underwears usually sewn with running stitch purled or decoreted by using crochet when they are prepared as dowry.
