Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the professional commitment and professional competence of teachers working in Zonguldak. It was examined whether teachers' perceptions of professional commitment and professional competence skills differed significantly in terms of different variables. This research is based on a descriptive survey model. The study group of the research consists of 100 teachers (N=100) working in public and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in the province of Zonguldak in the 2021-2022 academic year. In the analysis of the data, first of all, descriptive statistics such as arithmetic mean and standard deviation of the answers given to the scales "Teaching Profession Engagement Scale" and "Teaching Profession's Proficiency Scale" were calculated in order to reveal the teachers' opinions about their level of commitment to the teaching profession and their proficiency skills in the teaching profession. Then, it was examined whether the perceptions of teachers about their professional commitment to teaching and teaching profession competencies differ according to some personal and professional characteristics. Independent groups t-test was used in the comparison made according to the gender variable, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used in the comparisons made according to professional seniority, age, and variables. According to the research findings, it was concluded that there was no significant difference between professional commitment and general teaching competencies.
