Examination of Design Constructs (Dominance, Contrast, Balance, etc.) in Döşemealtı Carpets Woven in Kapaklı Village (Burdur)

Abstract

Turkish Hand-woven carpets are one of our cultural values ​​that reflect the vital traces of the region they belong to and the feelings of the people who weave them, act as a bridge between the past and the present, are handed down from generation to generation and produced with the light of hand. Technological developments, changing living conditions, cultural interactions, etc. It is important to record the motif colors and patterns of our local carpets, whose production has decreased considerably due to the effects of the war on the world, but which continue to affect those who weave, use, art, and artists with their unique language despite the changing world values, and to be a source for future studies.

Dosemealti carpets are one of the hand-woven products with the highest brand value in our country. In this study, the Döşemealtı carpets identified in the village of Burdur Kapaklı differ in motif, color, composition, etc. Similar and different aspects were revealed by analyzing the design constructs, especially in the context of color contrasts.

Today's living conditions, commercial concerns, technological developments, etc. As a result of the examinations, it has been determined that the Döşemealtı carpets detected in Kapaklı village, like other local carpets, are affected negatively due to these reasons so that the move away from tradition becomes visible in the carpets woven.

As a result of the comparison of the detected carpets with the traditional carpets, it has been observed that the dimensions of the carpets have changed and accordingly the motif and pattern placements have been differentiated, new motifs have been included in the pattern, and differentiation has occurred in colors with the increase of chemical dyes.

Although it is largely faithful to the traditional Döşemealtı carpets, it has been determined that similar changes have an effect on the general setup of the weavings and that slightly different structures have emerged in the general setup of the weavings, especially in terms of color contrast.
