Abstract

An individual's career choice is an important stage in society. According to research, individuals who have a suitable profession do their job willingly, work efficiently and are successful in their profession. The aim of the study is to examine the factors that play a role in the choice of music teaching as a profession by students studying music pedagogy at Alexander and Nikolay Stoletov Vladimir State University. The study is in a cross-sectional situation determination model. This model is a research approach that aims to describe a situation as it exists. The study group of the research; Using the simple random sampling method, which is one of the probability sampling methods, the sample consists of six participants studying music pedagogy at Alexander and Nikolay Stoletov Vladimir State University. A semi-structured interview was used as the data collection method. Coding data analysis was used to analyze the data. According to the findings obtained from the data obtained, it has been seen that students' career choices are a long-term process affected by many different factors. Among these factors are music learning experiences based on opportunities to receive music education at an early age. The prevalence of internal and external factors has emerged among the factors affecting students' career choices. It has been observed that the dominance of internal and positive external factors is also effective in terms of job satisfaction and productivity. According to the findings of the research, it was determined that the students receiving music pedagogy education who participated in the research did not perceive themselves only as music teachers but saw the professions of musicians and teachers an inseparable whole.
