Abstract

One of the important areas of traditional Turkish arts is our handmade carpets. Dosemealti Carpets is one of our carpet regions with its own unique character within the integrity of Traditional Turkish Hand Woven. Döşemealtı Carpets are woven in a wide area from the north of Antalya, especially in Burdur and Isparta. Kayaaltı Village, our research area, is one of the places woven by Döşemealtı Carpets. Although not yet woven in the region, the carpets of previous years are kept and protected with great care.

This study, which is structured as a research based on observation-interview and analysis of the obtained information, is aimed to identify the Döşemealtı carpets woven in the region and to reveal their design features. A total of 16 underfloor carpets were identified in the houses visited in the village, and 9 of them were examined in terms of motif, color, pattern and design features, and the findings were discussed. It was determined that all of the carpets examined were in prayer rug size and were woven between 24x25 and 24x30 qualities. Of these carpets, 2 of them are Halelli, 2 of them are Akrepli, 1 of them is Terazi Toplu, 1 of them is Toplu, and 1 of them is Kocasulu carpets. It has been determined that the other 2 carpets are woven differently from the others and are called Oak branched carpets in the region.
