Abstract

The survival of people largely depends on their ability to adapt to changes in their environment. Effective adaptation is only possible with learning. Reacting appropriately to the situation, and learning how to adapt to the environment, is often basic condition for survival. One of the most important skills that individuals need to have in order to exist and improve their living conditions in the developing technology and information age is lifelong learning. Learning enables one to stay active and develop skills in old age. In general, informal learning is considerably more prevalent than participation in regular (organized) learning. Informal learning gains more importance for the elderly who have completed their formal education a long time ago. The article focuses on the literature on informal learning and its importance in the lives of the elderly
