CALCULATION OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE RATING GRADES: AN APPLICATION ON BIST TOURISM ENTERPRISES

Abstract

Corporate governance aims to ensure that businesses traded in capital markets gain better management in terms of monitoring their management and financial status and accountability. The contribution of corporate governance to the formation of a more robust business concept against financial crises, globalization, bankruptcies, and competition increases the importance of corporate governance. The purpose of this study is to determine the corporate governance ratings of BIST tourism businesses. For this purpose, the corporate governance rating grades of the tourism enterprises traded in the BIST between the years 2015-2019 were calculated according to the principles determined by the Capital Markets Boards of Turkey. In order to calculate the corporate governance rating, the activity reports of the enterprises within the scope of the study were examined, and accordingly, content analysis was made from qualitative research methods. According to the results of the research; It has been concluded that the corporate rating grades of hotel businesses are at a higher level of compliance than restaurant businesses, and that hotel businesses also differ in their level of compliance over the years.
