Possession and protecting the ownership started at a very early age in human history. Both owning and protecting properties were extremely important in the past and still are today. This issue has been very complicated during the ages and it has shown differences between countries and regions. While the world and life were changing, many rules in ownership have been developed as universal ones; and, mutual values were accepted for all humanity. In this study, the history of property ownership, patents, and copyrights were researched as well as the copyright laws and regulations before Ottoman Empire, in Ottoman Empire, and modern Turkey including the latest regulations.
