Abstract

One of the most important actors of the structural underemployment problem shaped by the Turkish labor market is the participation of women in the labor force. Therefore, various policy suggestions to be developed regarding the participation of women in the labor market will contribute significantly to the stability of economic growth thanks to the efficiency of the labor market in the Turkish economy and total factor productivity through employment input.

The aim of this study is to reveal the factors that prevent female participation in working life and to explain the effects of these factors on the economic growth process. For this purpose, firstly the social role of women and gender inequality were discussed and then the demography of female employment in Turkey was explained. While presenting the theoretical framework of the relationship between female employment and economic growth, studies in the literature are also included. In the research, it has been determined that the state has developed a series of policies to promote female employment, but some of these policies are not effective in practice, and some of them have produced results contrary to expectations.
