CIGARETTE-ALCOHOL USE LEVELS AND FAMILY FRIENDSHIP OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

This study was conducted to determine cigarette-alcohol use among university students, effective factors, and its relationship with family belonging. The sample of the study consists of 378 students studying at Selçuk University Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Communication, and Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. The data were collected using a questionnaire consisting of 27 questions and a Family Belonging Scale consisting of 17 questions. As a result of the research, the average age of the students participating in the research is 17.10. While 69.3% of the students have never smoked in their life, the rate of those who rarely smoke is 14.8%. The rate of students who smoke half a pack of cigarettes every day is 7.2%, 5.6% who finish a pack, and 2.6% who consume more. While 74.9 of the students stated that they had never tried alcohol, 21.2 of them stated that they rarely used it, and 3.9% of them that they drank frequently. Living in a peaceful and trouble-free family environment and strong family ties during the youth period plays an important role in increasing the individual's family belonging. In addition, it was determined that the risk of smoking, alcohol, and substance use is lower in these conditions.
