Abstract

The features brought by technology and digitalization have also caused packaging designs to change. Packaging designs, as traces of certain periods, are the carrier of a certain tradition and as well as cultural forms of communication. It is experienced by using packaging designs, which are cultural formations that are constantly changing and developing according to time and period, and when evaluated from a different perspective. Packaging designs, which are aperiodic indicators of the living society, also evoke the future with its past. Values ​​that are on the verge of disappearing in the packaging culture have different characteristics from the past. Packaging design types and materials have also changed shape according to periods and demographic transformations. Packaging design history is also important for cultural reflections to quote reference packaging designs to be created in the future. The history of packaging design, starting with the formation of humanity, continues with the increase of technology, material, and printing options that develop thanks to technological advances. Today, some of the packaging designs have undergone changes, while others have been completely forgotten. This study, it is aimed to document, examine and carry to the future with the packaging designs that are being forgotten today to the future by making literature review method and description. The universe of the research consists of packaging designs used in different ways in different periods. The sample of the study is the packaging designs in Turkey that are sometimes identified with history, sometimes conveying tradition, and sometimes referencing the historical past. When creating a design's future, it should also consider its past.
