Abstract

The aim of the research is to determine the attitudes of school administrators working at various levels, their preparations for a possible crisis situation, and their experiences in managing crises. In this research study, the phenomenology approach, one of the qualitative research designs, was used. The data of the research were obtained with the "Semi-Structured Interview Protocol Form", which was developed by an expert academician. The working group of this research subject consists of school administrators (N = 5) working in different institutions in Alaplı district of Zonguldak province in the academic year of 2020-2021. The results obtained in this qualitative study were ranked and interpreted according to 4 research sub-problems. According to the results of the research, it was observed that as the seniority of school administrators increased, their crisis management skills also increased, and the crises differed according to the school types and the environment they were in. In the literature review, it has been determined that the causes of the crisis in schools are generally not taking precautionary measures and the administrators do not perceive crisis situations and do not take the right moves. In the literature review, it is seen that crisis intervention in the school environment is teamwork, and school administrators play a key role in coordinating teachers, students and staff, and in the crisis management process.
