Abstract

This study, it is aimed to measure the knowledge level of school bus drivers, who are in a position to save lives by providing first aid to people in the event of an accident, to compare their age, education, time spent in the profession, and first aid information according to their level of finding sufficient, to determine the deficiencies and inadequacies in this field and to determine their first aid needs.

In the formation of the project, participatory observation, field scanning, experimental research (interview and survey techniques) techniques were applied from the scientific research stages.

The research was applied to school bus drivers in Adana province Çukurova district in the 3rd and 4th weeks of September 2021. There are 351 school bus drivers in the Çukurova district, 71 of them voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. Therefore, the number of samples to represent the universe was determined as 71.

Within the scope of the project, a questionnaire consisting of 11 questions was developed to collect the information and data to be obtained from the samples. 4 questions are multiple choice and 7 questions are open ended. It is aimed to eliminate the chance factor in examining the knowledge levels with open-ended questions. This questionnaire was applied to the relevant sample.

While evaluating the first aid knowledge levels of the drivers, the answers given to the open-ended questions in the questionnaire were compared with the information in the sources on first aid and determined as "don't know", "partially knows" and "knows". The adequacy of the first aid material in the vehicles was decided by taking the standard material list determined according to the Highway Traffic Regulation. Statistical analysis of the data was made using the SPSS 16.0 package program. Frequency distributions were obtained and tables were formed.

First aid knowledge levels of school bus drivers included in the study were generally found to be insufficient.

Special seminars on first aid should be given to school bus drivers at certain times.
