Abstract

Disaster is the general name given to events that cause loss of life and property and negatively affect life. The right decisions to be taken before, during and after the disaster significantly reduce the damage from the effects of the disaster. Considering that we are a country with a high rate of being affected by disasters, social or individual measures will prevent us from being adversely affected by disasters. Minimizing the negative effects of disasters in the Republic of Turkey; It carries out various studies in order to gain the right behaviors before, during and after the disaster. The majority of these studies are carried out under the umbrella of AFAD (Ministry of the Interior, Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency). Apart from the AFAD studies, various studies are also carried out by the relevant ministries.

The Ministry of National Education also carries out studies to teach students the right behaviors before, during and after the disaster. The most comprehensive of these studies; Including disaster-related content in curricula, textbooks and workbooks. The aim of this study is to reveal the level of disaster-related content included in curricula, textbooks and workbooks. In this context, the findings obtained by scanning the contents of the compulsory and elective courses of the MEB publications taught at the basic education level in the 2021-2022 academic year were interpreted.

The research was carried out with the qualitative research method. The research was carried out with the document analysis pattern, which is one of the patterns of the qualitative research method. Content analysis was carried out on the findings obtained from the examined documents. When the findings of the research were examined, it was seen that the study and textbooks included disaster-related content, and it was desired to increase the level of knowledge about correct behavior in disasters and disaster management through the content provided. In addition, in the curricula examined, it was seen that the most achievements related to disaster were found in social studies (8 acquisitions), life studies (7 acquisitions) and English (7 acquisitions), and 10 acquisitions at the 8th grade level were included in all courses. However, it was seen that the most common disaster types were mentioned in the study and textbooks, and the earthquake was the most common type of disaster.
