Abstract

The National Turkestan Unity Committee (NTUC) is an organization established in Berlin under the presidency of Veli Kayyum Han during the Second World War. NTUC, the Turkestan government in exile, carried out very important activities for the independence of Turkestan. As a result of the defeat of Hitler’s Germany in the Second World War, Veli Kayyum Khan was taken prisoner and the activities of the committee stopped. Kayyum Han was tried as a war criminal at the Nuremberg trial and was finally acquitted after two years of imprisonment. Kayyum Khan, who reorganized the MTBK after the war, continued to fight against the Soviet regime in an anti-Bolshevist line. He continued the Turkestan independence struggle outside of Turkestan and became the leading defender of this struggle in the international arena. Veli Kayyum Khan aimed to introduce the Turkestan struggle to the Islamic world and to find support for this struggle with the telegrams he sent to the Egyptian delegate at the United Nations. He requested help from the West and the Muslim world to end the Bolshevik terror in Turkestan. A copy of the telegrams was sent to the Turkish Foreign Ministry by the Ankara Egyptian Ambassador. In the documents, the extermination movement against the Turkestan people by the Soviet government, which caused the disaster of millions of people, and the captivity of the people of Turkestan are protested. President Kayyum Han draws attention not only to the Sovietization in West Turkestan but also to the Chineseization in East Turkestan. In our study, some evaluations will be made by revealing the contents of the documents in the Turkish Diplomatic Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and which will be published for the first time.
