Abstract

We use the "Energy and Nutrients Table" on the packaging of food products for different reasons. Sometimes we use these tables to find out which nutrients are in the product, and sometimes to find out the number of nutrients in the products. However, whatever the reason may be, the important thing for all consumers is that these tables are easy to understand and contain the information sought.

Purpose of the study; The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of adding the walking distance and walking time required to burn the calorie amount of the product to the energy and nutritional elements table on the packaging of food products on the consumption habits of secondary school students.

In the study; It has been revealed that secondary school students who examine the nutritional values table in packaged foods have little information about the calorie value and those who have knowledge cannot concretize the calorie value. It has been concluded that adding the required walking distance and/or walking time visuals to the nutritional values table of packaged foods may cause a decrease in the consumption habits of secondary school students. The fact that the walking distance or walking time required to spend the amount of calories taken is included in the Energy and nutritional elements table on the packaging of food products may prevent the intake of more calories than needed.

Secondary school students should be informed about calorie values.

Secondary school students should be taught how to read the nutritional value table in foods.

By determining the foods that secondary school students frequently consume and starting with these foods, the image of the calorie amount of walking time/distance should be added to the nutritional values table of the relevant product.
