Hayat Böyledir İşte (Such is Life) is one of Tarık Buğra’s most well-known stories. Many studies on this story have been published both in the academy and in the literary world. This interest is a clear indication of the story’s appeal to the general readers and the literary scholars’ willingness to research the aspects of the story that affect them. Researchers have analyzed the story mostly from a thematic perspective, making reference to the poetic quality of the author’s style as well as making classical remarks on the time, space and the event. However, the literary work of a certain high quality is not conducive to fast consumption. The same work can be reinterpreted numerous times from different perspectives and approaches, and thus one can always find new things to say about it. In this study, we will approach Hayat Böyledir İşte through close reading in an attempt to identify the narrative techniques Tarık Buğra adopted to attain the aesthetic quality we have mentioned and managed to touch the reader. Our point of departure will be analytical philosophy’s assumption that an analysis of thoughts is identical to an analysis of language.
