THE HEALING POWER OF ART: THERAPEUTIC ART AND YAYOI KUSAMA

Abstract

Yayoi Kusama is an important artist who is also involved in the Japanese avant-garde, pop-art, feminist and even art gross movement. The artist reflects the hallucinations she has seen from a very young age in her paintings.
She uses the picture as a method of coping with his psychological problems in the later ages. For her, art presents the subconscious directly in polka dots, reflecting the fluctuations of hallucinations she sees, and depicting them in large flower-like forms like the flowers of Georgia O’keeffee, which she emulates.
What makes it different from others is that it is psychologically uncomfortable and can produce in this way. It presents the subconscious in the raw form to the audience. For this reason, it can actually be at the center of the Art Brut movement.
Kusama, which is an important place in today's art with its creativity, hardworking, ambitiousness and determination to reach its purpose, will be tried to be considered in the relation of art as the place of art and therapeutic in this study
