DEVELOPMENT OF BEDROOMS IN HISTORICAL PROCESS

Abstract

The act of bedding is carried out by the use of furniture called a bed, which is one of the important requirements that ensure the continuation of life. It was necessary to create a separate space for the action of lying under the influence of various factors, especially privacy. The development of both bedroom furniture and bedroom is interconnected. Throughout history, the development of bedroom furniture and bedroom has gone through a wide variety of phases. Bedrooms are not just a place used for only sleeping. Throughout history, it has been a sign of wealth and status, a place for socialization, an intimate area, and a developing place with technology. The bedding action and the places where this action takes place differ according to cultures, lifestyle, customs and traditions, art movements and periods, political and socio-cultural events, architectural planning, and the development of materials and construction technology. In this study, the concept of the bedroom will be examined especially through residences, and its historical development will be analysed in terms of space and furniture, and its future approaches will be discussed, especially with its Westernization movement in Turkey
