Having gained its independence in 1991, the Republic of Kazakhstan has a multi-vector, pragmatic and pro-active foreign policy strategy. This foreign policy strategy, developed by Kazakhstan Founding President Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, continues to have an impact today. The Republic of Kazakhstan has become the leading country of Central Asia under the leadership of Nazarbayev and has gained a respected position in international relations.
The document titled “2020-2030 Foreign Policy Concept” was approved by the President Kasım Jomart Tokayev and entered into force on March 6, 2020, is a continuation of the line followed by Nazarbayev in foreign policy. The new foreign policy document reveals the position of Kazakhstan in current international relations with its political, economic and geopolitical aspects. Multi vector, pragmatism and balance policies, which form the defining principles of traditional Kazakhstan foreign policy, form the basis of the new foreign policy document. The document thoroughly evaluates the current state of the international system and addresses Kazakhstan's position in the current international system, its priorities and interests within the framework of foreign policy continuity.
