DETERMINATION OF IDEA AND BEHAVIORS OF ORGAN DONATIONS OF HEALTH SERVICES VOCATIONAL SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

This study was conducted in order to determine students' opinions and behaviors on organ transplantation, who are studing at vocational college of health services. The research sample consisted of 250 students who were educated at Dicle University Atatürk Health Services Vocational School.Data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 25 questions and interviews between March and May 2017.The study's ethics committee approval was obtained from Dicle University Hospitals.The data were evaluated using the SPSS 20.0 package program using percentage and Chi-square analyzes. 47.6% of the participating students were under 20 years old and 70% were women.80% had knowledge about organ donation, but 61.2% did not know the necessary conditions.97.2% of the students believed that donation was necessary, but 87.2% of the students felt that it was insufficient. The source they wanted to get the most information about organ donation was from doctors (96.8%) but most of them was informed from the school (47.2%). 96.8% of the participants did not have an organ donation and 79.2% of them reported that they wanted to be present after they died on donations. As a result, most of the students had information about organ donation and they warmly welcomed for organ donated. These results give positive information that healthcare personnel will play an active role in raising awareness of the community when donating will increase.
