AN ANALYSIS OF GEORGIAN MYTHOLOGY FROM A FEMALE PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

Due to their strategic geography and vast history, the Georgians, one of the Caucasus region's oldest civilizations, have forged closer ties with numerous other civilizations from past to present. For social scientists working in a variety of fields like gender, literature, mythology, and women's studies, the Georgians, who have been able to preserve their unique cultural treasures and have carried the tradition of female-based mythological narratives from the polytheistic belief period to the present day to a significant extent, represent an unexplored research universe. Georgian mythology seeks to set itself apart from other national mythologies in this way by capturing visible femininity in the narrative through goddesses in which the female gender is clearly sanctified. This study, on the one hand, seeks to provide the reader with a broad framework for understanding Georgian history and mythology; on the other hand, it seeks to ascertain the position of women in Georgian culture and their experiences as female characters in the fictional universe through the lens of the Goddesses.
