Inventories are tools which measure the typical behaviours of an individual related to personality, interest and attitudes. Various inventories have been developed for this purpose. Personality Inventories have generally been developed to collect information about personality characteristics and levels of compatibility. Interest Inventories have been developed to measure the interest of individuals. They are applied in schools to determine in which area, program, profession or activity students are interested and thus to direct them. Attitude Inventories have been developed to measure the emotional, intellectual and behavioural tendencies of an individual.
Information obtained from personal identity techniques is of guidance to parents, teachers and psychology counsellors on the subject of planning support to be given to students. The First Step Personal Identity Inventory is one such inventory which was used in this study. The First Step Personal Identity Inventory was developed as a result of the collaboration of academicians working in the field of Psychology Counselling and Welfare in Hacettepe and Boğaziçi universities. Using scientific methods to determine the personality characteristics of students, their work habits, predominant intellectual area, learning style, and interest and capability in a professional field, the necessary identity results are produced to be able to correctly direct students.
In this study, The First Step Personal Identity Inventory was applied to 90 girl students in the 8th grade who were going to take the High School Entrance Examination in the 2019-2020 academic year, and the factors affecting the process of career development in girl students were examined. This application aimed to guide the students in school selection and professional preferences. With the data obtained as a result of this study, individual professional guidance on the subject of career development was provided for each girl student.
