Abstract

In this study, the issue of terminological pluralism, which is often encountered in the literature on the equivalent of the concept of management, has been problematized. In this problematic context, the background elements of the concept of management, which play a role in the emergence of the terminological pluralism in the pre-scientific practices and the line from the beginning of the science of management to the present, have been discussed. Due to the fact that management is a well-established phenomenon dating back to the beginning of human history, the terminological responses from the different disciplines it feeds on in practice and theory have been shared. Considering that one of the sharp distinctions that are particularly noticeable in the literature is the management/administration distinction, a synthesis was reached by focusing on the differences and similarities suggested being found between the two terms in this study. The management definitions made from the past to the present were analyzed and a new definition of management was introduced based on the common points where these definitions meet
