FRUITS AND VEGETABLES SPEAKING IN JALÂLADDIN SUYUTI'S MAQMATU'T-TUFFAHIYYA AND AZ-ZUMRUDIYE

Abstract

The features that the maqamat prose writings and give them the type of verse type are the literary arts practiced on them. Maqamats, prose, together with the rythming prose, pun, simbih, metaphor, diagnose and fable. The subject areas of the maqamats, are quite extensive. Places like country, town and city in the context of their subjects; courage-cowardliness, generosity-stinginess, frivolity-unbelief, courtesy-rudeness, love-kin, trust-treachery features are some of them. In this study, al-Maqâmatu't-Tuffahiyye and al-Maqâmatu'z-Zumrudiyye were taken up by the authorities of Jelâladdîn Suyûtî (d.911/1505). In the mentioned offices, vegetables and fruits such as pomegranate, quince, pear, peach, lettuce, gumbo, hibiscus and mallow are known in many regions in the history of mankind as a debate and dialogue. Each one of them, by the author, spoke as a subject, praising herself. Sometimes when they were praising themselves or their competitors, they did not avoid bringing topics or weak hadiths. In this study, the subject matter of the exhibition and fable format were analyzed and the hadiths were criticized.
