Abstract

Due to the developments in science and technology, many new profession have emerged today. In Turkey its possible to meantion thousands of different professions including tourist guidance profession. The profession choice has a significant role in shaping individuals’ lives. Therefore, the choice of profession has a critical importance. In the literature, it is possible to find many studies about determining the important factors for choice of profession. In this study, based on factors influencing the profession choice of individuals, the factors - influencing the former tourist guides to be an inactive guide and their preferences other professions - have been investigated. As a result of the analysis of the data it is found out that environmental factors, the economic aspects of the guidance profession, factors related with regulations and the policies regarding tourist guide profession in Turkey, psychological factors, factors related with the structure of the tourist guiding profession and the political, political and / or military factors were effective for the former tourist guides to be an inactive guide and their preferences other professions while the factors related to the physical characteristics of the individuals are not
