Greenhouse cultivation which was started by 124 farmers on a 14.2 decare of the area in Gerze in 2005 has improved and increased considerably. Extensive greenhouse cultivation is carried out as a secondary economic activity besides basic livelihoods. Cucumber, tomatoes, pepper, and eggplant are cultivated in late spring and early summer; green onion, lettuce, and parsley in winter. The study investigated the appropriacy of climatic characteristics in the field for greenhouse production, to this end observations of the region were compared with observations of coastal parts (central parts of Antalya and İzmir provinces) in Mediterranean and Aegean regions. Evaluations revealed that temperature values and hours of sunshine that are crucial especially for greenhouse production, as well as other climatic factors, were not within the appropriate limits. Recommendations were developed to solve the problems resulting from the climate, it was discussed if greenhouse production could be an alternative to current agricultural products in the region. The study used methods of the field trip, reasoning, and interview. The last form of the study was created following the literature survey for greenhouse production and analysis of documented data.
