MILITARY-POLITICAL RELATIONS IN TURKEY AND THE TRANSPORTATION OF SAID NURSI'S GRAVE

Abstract

The main duty of the army, which is one of the basic elements of the state, is to ensure the security of the country, but it is known that the army was involved in politics during the period from the first Turkish states to the present. Besides the army and politics of democratic transition efforts it has been made with the establishment of the Republic of Turkey to the new regulations on the subject. The constitutional arrangements made changes in the structure of the army and caused him to see himself as the guardian of the regime, modernization and social order with a statist approach. The military's structural features and the role it has undertaken have revealed interventions in political life and coups over time. In our study, the kidnapping of the grave of Said Nursi’s, one of the extraordinary practices of military administration, which was created with the military intervention in the political developments with the coup of May 27, 1960, was examined within the context of the army-politics relationship by being included in various sources. With this event, the regulatory power of the Turkish Armed Forces on politics and civil society has been tried to be revealed.
