Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the contribution of school sports activities to self-confidence of student athletes in terms of some variables. The sample of the study, which was conducted by using the general screening model, is consisted of 193 volunteer student athletes selected from the universe by simple random method. In the research, “Self-Confidence Scale” was used as the data collection tool. Based on the answers given by the student athletes to the scale items, it was seen that male students, 17-years-old students, vocational high school students, students whose fathers graduated from a high school, and students with the highest income level have higher self-confidence scores. Also, it was observed that the students whose branch of sports is football, handball or taekwondo have higher self-confidence values than the students doing other sports. In addition, while the statistical value of the study did not show a significant difference in gender, age, high school type, father education level and family income status variables, it was found that there was a significant difference in sport type variable
