Abstract

The objective of this assay is to clarify the preferences of university students concerning the any type of Western and Turkish music in terms of changing or not changing by considering the variables as having or not having the music education, genders and the sequence of listening music. Working group includes 260 students in total attending to different faculties at 19 Mayıs University. In this research as data collecting tool, 18 sampling musical pieces covering diversified periods and species in western and Turkish culture were selected. Those musical pieces have been working group listened for two minutes and then asked for choosing one of them matching to own likeness level. According to the results of this study, it is determined that the preferences of university students for different types of Western and Turkish music is differed as having or not having music education and the sequence of listening music but is not differed when considering the genders. It is the fact that the inclination of the students having professional music education is more then the students not having music education, whenever the increasing the sequence of listening music simultaneously the inclination of music is going up and the level of inclination of female students for music is higher comparison to the male ones which is not meaningful for the science of statistics
