One of the important means of expressing the richness and the creating power of Turkish is "reduplication duals." In its simplest form; reduplication dual, which we can define as "to agglutinate two words that are the same, similar, or opposite in a text" is a grammatical feature that enriches, reinforces, and provides sound intensity. Starting from the Orkhon Inscriptions, until the day of the Republican period and then to this today, reduplication duals have become one of the indispensable forms of expression of literary texts in Turkish literature.
We frequently encounter with reduplication duals in the poems written within the tradition of Divan Literature. The fact that rhyme and repeated voice form a formal necessity in the Divan poetry causes the use of reduplication dual. It is because the rhyme and the repeated voice are based on the resemblance of the sound and vocabulary. Reduplication dual is, also, a word and voice repetition. Within the aesthetic structure of classical Turkish poetry, this voice, speech, word harmony, and repetition have great influence on poets' power of expression and creativity. For this reason, reduplication duals act as savior about providing rhythm and meaning intensity for divan poets in a formal connectivity.
In our study, centered on the gazels of Zâtî (Balıkesir 1471-Istanbul 1546), who is known as one of the most productive poets of classical Turkish literature in the 16th century, we have aimed to reveal the function of the voices and meanings of the reduplications he used in his poems. In this regard, we examined 1825 gazels on Zâtî's divan. As a result, we have seen that the poet both used reduplication intensely and in a way that contributes to the perfection of speech in his gazels. For this reason, Zâtî can be regarded as a "poet of reduplication duals."
