Abstract

Sedentary marriage is among the issues that have not been adequately analyzed and revealed. Therefore, our study, it is aimed to examine the sedentary marriage in depth from dating to the post-marriage process.

The qualitative research method was adopted in the study. The study was conducted with women who had a sedentary type of marriage. The questions included in the interviews with the women who were engaged in the sedentary type marriage, which is the basis of the research, were produced to understand and define the sedentary marriage. In this study, sedentary marriage was examined in four stages; dating, absence of marriage, sedentary period, and post-marriage period.

The universe of the study consists of women who have been married in sedentary type, residing in Çukurova, Sarıçam, Seyhan, and Yüreğir districts of Adana. The exact number of the universe is unknown. The sample is 12 sedentary women living in these four districts. Assistance was received from the near surrounding and non-governmental organizations in order to reach the women who were married in the sedentary type. As a result of the research, 12 people who had this type of marriage were reached. 4 out of 12 sedentary women did not want to participate in the interviews and the research was conducted with 8 sedentary women.

Despite their pride ant, the negative attitudes of their families and those around them towards sedentary, women have performed sedentary marriages. It has been seen that one of the points where women make sacrifices is the reputation in society. However, this is not the case for men. It is women who are affected by sedentary.

In our study, serious findings have been reached to illuminate sedentary and it is thought that the study will be a good guide for future research.
