Abstract

The creation of the Azerbaijan education system coincides with a thousand years ago. The education system has been shaped by different elements until today. According to the history of Azerbaijan, the country's education system dates back to BC. III. century and the first education system VIII. It was founded in the century. Education, which maintains its importance in almost every period, consists of three chronological periods: the pre-Islamic period, Tsarist Russia, and the post-independence period.

After the end of the Soviet Union, processes began in all post-Soviet countries to establish the origin of independence on the way to conformity to social life and modern world standards. One of the most vital tasks for the newly independent countries was to get rid of the old educational structure, to modernize it according to the new socioeconomic conditions, and to combine it in developed world standards.

General education in the Republic of Azerbaijan consists of 3 levels. Elementary, Middle and High School. General education, which lasts for 11 years, can be completed earlier if desired. As of the 2019-2020 academic year, the number of secondary schools in the Republic of Azerbaijan is 4433, the number of students studying is 1.606.105 and the number of teachers is 151.561.
