Abstract

The art of mosaic continues to be used today both in the field of design due to its functional features and in the field of art because it is still a form of discourse, as it has been thousands of years ago. However, mosaics deteriorate over time by undergoing various destructions. Among these deteriorations, many ecological, mechanical, and human-induced causes are listed. These damages can be minimized with timely protection measures to be applied to the mosaics.

This study includes removing and conserving the mosaic wall panel named “Köylü Pazarı” belonging to Selçuk Günay, located on the eastern wall of the “Güngörmez Mosque”, located in Osmangazi district, Tahtakale District, block 5547, parcel 4, owned by Eynebey Foundation, whose renovation works have been started recently. In the study, removal and restoration processes will be discussed and it will be emphasized that these processes represent the general structure of the deformation and preservation of mosaics.
