Abstract

The use of tasbih (similes and metaphors) is important for Divan poetry. Many poets of Divan literature have successfully used these kinds of metaphors in their poems. The metaphors used in Divan poetry are living and non-living beings in nature. In short, these elements consist of plants or other items. Some of the similes are also based on animals. The relation of animals with humans exist in different cultures of the world. These relations have been interpreted differently in each culture. Here is an example in this regard. The animal element has an important place in Eastern culture. On the other hand, the same element is still used in Western culture sources. But this usage in Western culture differs from Eastern culture’s one, it has manifested itself mostly in works that are in the form of animal tales, written in fable genres. The animal theme has also been treated in Indian culture, one of the oldest cultures in the world. Many tales, stories etc of the cultural products exist in this area. Kelile and Dimne comes first among these cultural products. This work, which takes its name from Kelile, the symbol of truth and honesty, and two jackals named Dimne, representing lies and falsehood, is among the most important examples of the fable genre. Many thinkers, especially Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumî, have utilized Kelile and Dimne. While Eastern culture approaches animal-human unity from a more mystical perspective, this situation again differs in Western culture. Animals are also depicted in poems by master poets in the Divan poetry. The use of animals in divan poetry not only adds color to the meaning of the poem, but also enables the use of different literary arts together. For instance, birds have an important place among the creatures used in classical Turkish literature. Many of the poets have used this element in their poems. Fuzulî is one of the poets who use the "bird" element in their poems. In this study, the way the "bird" element is handled in the poems of Fuzulî, one of the masters of Classical Turkish poetry, will be given with examples.
