EBÛ SA’D ES-SEMMÂN İSMAİL AND HIS BOOK CALLED “AL-MUVÂFAQAT BEYNE EHLİ’L-BEYT VE’S-SAHÂBA”

Abstract

Ahl al-Bayt, the family of the Prophet, has a great importance to Muslims. On the basis of showing love and respect, we can also say that Ahl al-Bayt is a common subject of all Muslims. In this respect, many books are written about them almost every century in the geography of Islam in the name of “manakib”. One of the books is called “el-Muvâfaqat beyne ehli’l-beyt ve’s-sahâbe vemâ revâhu küllü ferîkin fî haqqi’l-ahar” written by Ebû Sa’d es-Semmân İsmâîl b. Ali b. Zancewayh er-Râzî (d. 445/1053). The work contains the beautiful words that the Ahl al-Bayt told about the other sahabas (friends of prophet) and the beautiful words they said about the Ahl al-Bayt. Abu’l-Qāsım Mahmoud b. Omar ez-Zamahshari (d. 538/1143) who comes a century later from Abu Sa’d es-Semman summarized his work, re-edited the references and repetations of the hadiths, and just used the hadith texts. Although the work was analyzed by both authors, some of the hadith in the work could not escape being criticized by later hadith scholars. In this study, the content, writing and methodological features of the work are discussed.
